Barcelona admit defeat in pursuit for Hector Bellerin but revert to Cesar Azpilicueta as alternative.
Ballerin has been the focus all summer for the Barcelona board and now a move for the Arsenal man has been officially ruled out – Cesar Azpilicueta is once again on the club’s transfer radar.
The La Liga giants are unwilling to pay €40m for the 22 year old Arsenal product and see the Blues defender the best alternative.
According to reports from Spanish newspapers AS and Marca, Azpilicueta is now the primary target as a result with the Blaugrana keeping tabs on the Blues star over the past year.
Throughout last season for the blues the 27 year old played every single minute of every game in the Premier League.
Since signing for Chelsea in 2012, the Spaniard has become one of the club’s most consistent players, with his performances being highly commended.
At the moment Chelsea are not willing to say goodbye to Azpilicueta just yet as he is a crucial member of Antonio Conte’s side. The Spaniard is one of the candidates to become the new club captain.
