Umtiti is demanding higher wages
One of the most longest saga this season has been the Samuel Umtiti’s contract situation at Barcelona.
Since Umtiti has joined Barcelona, he has become their mainstay in the defense. With constant solid performances for the club, he has established himself as one of the best defenders in the world.
His form has earned interest from many top European clubs and Manchester United is one them. According to reports, Jose Mourinho has prioritized signing a defender this season and is keeping tabs on the Frenchman. He just has a release clause of €60 million in his contract which United would happily pay to acquire his service.
Barcelona are aware of this and don’t want to lose their star defender on such a bargain. They want to open contract renewal talks with him as soon as possible and time him down to a new contract. But the 24 year old is holding out as he is demanding an increase in his current wages to stay at the club.
The La Liga leaders have been put off by Umtiti’s lack of commitment for the club and they are in no hurry to talk with the defender about an improved contract, according to Mundo Deportivo. They are also not impressed by his recent performances especially in the Champions League against Roma.
