According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are interested in signing Atletico Madrid full-back Filipe Luis. One of the finest and most experienced left-backs in Europe, Luis has made 20 appearances for Atletico Madrid this season, scoring two goals and providing as many assists.
He could have made more appearances for Diego Simeone’s side this season but a muscle injury sidelined him for a few weeks.
Barcelona are looking for an experienced left-back as a cover for Jordi Alba. The Blaugrana do not have any other left-back and they need some backup option provided Alba gets injured.
Atletico Madrid have two quality left-backs in Filipe Luis and Lucas Hernandez who also plays as a centre-back. However, barring these two players, the only left-back Atletico have is 20-year old Francisco Montero. Hence, Atletico may not be too willing to sell Filipe Luis.
Filipe Luis’ current contract with Atletico Madrid expires in the summer and he is yet to sign a new contract with the club. Hence, there is some hope that Barcelona can be able to sign Luis from Atletico.
