Josep Maria Bartomeu confirms Brazilian will retire at Barca

FC Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has ruled out Neymar leaving the club in order to join Manchester United.

The Red Devils were surprisingly linked with the Brazilian winger after they withdrew their interest in Pedro before he joined Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Just hours after the Spaniard agreed to join Chelsea, reports emerged that United were now focusing on his team-mate Neymar.

However, in their latest transfer blow, Bartomeu has confirmed that the winger will be retiring from the game at the Nou Camp and certainly won’t be joining United this summer.

Neymar Won’t Be Leaving

He told ‘Club Mitjanit’ on Radio Catalunya: “We do not want Neymar to leave.

“He is young and we want him to retire here at our club.

“We will discuss Neymar’s renewal in some months’ time as he must stay here – not only for the next three seasons, but for the next five or 10.”

It was reported that United would even offer as much as £165million in order to sign the 23-year-old, which would break the transfer fee record which Real Madrid holds after signing Gareth Bale for £85m.

Missing out on Neymar will see United miss out on a trio of La Liga stars, following Pedro and Nicolas Otamendi, who joined Chelsea and Manchester City respectively.
