If reports from ESPN FC are to believed, Barcelona are set to offer a new contract to Lionel Messi which will see him stay put at the Nou Camp until he turns 36. The 32-year-old is in the final two years of his current contract with the club.
Barcelona also have the option of extending his contract by a year until 2022, but president Josep Maria Bartomeu is eager to tie down the Argentinian to a fresh new contract with new terms.
As per his current contract which he signed in 2017, Messi earns a whopping £7.3m per month before tax, which boils down to £1.7m per week. The Barcelona number 10 has had a glittering career at the Nou Camp, scoring 603 goals and making 242 assists in 687 games. He has won 34 trophies with the Catalan giants, including 10 LaLiga titles and 4 Champions League titles.
Messi joined Barcelona as a teenager in 2001 and will be signing his tenth contract with the club. However, the reports say that he is holding on signing the new deal until Barca sign his old strike partner Neymar.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is also the highest-paid footballer on the planet at the moment.
