Barcelona’s Sporting Director, Deco, is already preparing for the upcoming transfer window, and his focus has turned toward Chelsea.
Barcelona Sporting Director Eyes Two Chelsea Stars for Potential January Signings
With Barcelona facing ongoing financial constraints, Deco is exploring potential cost-effective reinforcements, and two Chelsea players have caught his attention: Carney Chukwuemeka and Romeo Lavia.
Deco’s interest in Chukwuemeka stems from Chelsea’s overcrowded squad, which may force them to offload several players.
The 20-year-old midfielder, who has struggled to find consistent game time at Stamford Bridge, could be available for a loan move in January.
Barcelona see him as a versatile option to strengthen their midfield without a hefty price tag. Chukwuemeka’s talent has not gone unnoticed, and Deco is keeping tabs on his situation as the winter window approaches.
Lavia, another Chelsea player on Deco’s radar, has been a long-time target for the Blaugrana. Barcelona tried to bring him in two summers ago, but the Belgian opted for Chelsea in a €60 million deal.
However, after a serious injury, Lavia is yet to establish himself in Chelsea’s starting lineup.
A loan move to Barcelona could offer him the opportunity to regain his form and secure more playing time, while helping Barcelona address their midfield depth concerns.
While manager Hansi Flick believes Barcelona has enough cover in the deep-lying midfield role, Deco remains proactive in scouting potential options.
With January fast approaching, the possibility of Barcelona securing one or both of these Chelsea youngsters remains a storyline to watch closely.
