Barcelona Squashes Rumours Of Philippe Coutinho Sale

According to the latest reports, Barcelona have no plans of selling Philippe Coutinho anytime soon.

Stories about a Camp Nou exit have been revolving around the name of the Brazilian attacker with Manchester United claimed to be highly interested. Since last weekend, Chelsea have also been drawn links to the midfielder as a possible replacement for Eden Hazard in the future.

The Blues fear that Hazard will depart for the Bernabeu next summer with just another season left in his current contract. Bringing in Coutinho could certainly bridge the gap in the creative department.

However, reliable Spanish journalist, Guillem Balague explained on his talk show that the rumours are simply being raised by the player’s representatives to force Barcelona’s hand. Coutinho has started only 11 of the Blaugrana’s 20 La Liga games this season, finding it hard to replicate Neymar’s talents on the left wing position.

Balague said, “Those are the representatives of Coutinho trying to put pressure to Barcelona. Barcelona have got no intention to get rid of Coutinho.

“We will see if this lack of impact continues down the line but right now Coutinho’s important to Barcelona, very important. Because they feel that he adds quality even though they realise that he’s not the midfielder that they thought they were getting.”

“I always said he’s a forward and as such it’s where he’s going to play for Barcelona. But do not believe right now the stories that put him out of Barcelona.”
