FC Barcelona’s medical staff begged the club’s officials not to sign Thomas Vermaelen from Arsenal over the Summer, due to his constant injury problems.
Despite their pleas, the Spanish giants went ahead with the deal and signed the Belgium centre-back in a deal worth £15million, but due to those injury problems, he has failed to make a senior appearance for his new side.
According to Spanish reports, medics at Barca made aware to the officials that Vermaelen has a bad history of injuries, and it has been clear since his arrival at the Nou Camp that they were right, with him struggling with numerous knocks already.
It’s believed that at one point, the medical staff even begged the club to pull out of the deal, but their pleads fell on death ears as the transfer was confirmed and finalised.
Arsenal moved quickly to replace the Belgium by bringing in Calum Chambers from Southampton.
