The defender could soon be playing Premier League football

Barcelona right-back Dani Alves could be leaving the Catalonian giants this summer according to reports in Spain.

The Brazilian international has apparently undergone talks with Manchester United about a possible move to the Premier League, as he is out of contract at Barcelona at the end of this campaign.

United manager Louis van Gaal is looking to strengthen in that department of his defence, as he is unconvinced by the performances of Alves’ fellow Brazilian Rafael Da Silva. This has been evident this season as centre-back Chris Smalling and right-winger Luis Antonio Valencia have often filled in the right-back berth for the Red Devils.

The Spanish media are adamant he will join Manchester United

Alves’ agent, Dinorah Santana, admitted live on a Catalan radio station that there could be a possible move to Old Trafford.

When speaking to RAC1, she said: “We’re close to signing for another club, talks are underway.”

She also added: “Dani is still available for renewal, but we don’t expect much else from Barca.”

However, RAC1 isn’t the only medium that have displayed such information. Spanish newspaper Sport have suggested that Alves has been offered a more lucrative deal at United and is ‘just a few days away’ from signing it and making the deal complete.

During his time at Barcelona, the 32-year old has won four La Liga titles and two Champions League titles.

But the former Sevilla man may be about to add to those achievements before a potential move abroad. Barcelona lead the way at the top of La Liga with just two fixtures remaining; four points ahead of their El Clasico rivals Real Madrid.

They are also in the final of both the Copa Del Rey and the Champions League.
