Lionel Messi missed a second-half penalty as Argentina were held to a 1-1 draw.
Argentines were denied a win by inspired Iceland in an eventful Group D opener.
Much will be made of the Barcelona man’s inability to convert from 12 yards but Argentina should not need a penalty to beat Iceland.

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has scored his first goal at a World Cup as Argentina took the lead against Iceland today.

Iceland immediately equalised through Alfred Finnbogason’s close-range finish, his country’s first-ever goal in the World Cup finals.

It will no doubt go down as a historic moment for the Iceland international.

And then Hannes Thor Halldorsson turned out to be headline grabber for Iceland as the goalkeeper’s penalty save from Lionel Messi secured his side a sensational 1-1 draw against Argentina.

Now, Social Media meltdown will be on another level.

Internet will be the place for most of the football fans to spit out their opinions.

And in such a crucial tournament Argentina fans will surely be feeling the heat as Messi has missed a spot-kick the fourth time in his last seven efforts for club and country.

Manchester United fans will be happy with Marcos Rojo, who assisted his city rival club’s star man Sergio Aguero.
