La Liga giants have scouted the midfielder for years
Barcelona are set to make a move for Manchester United playmaker Ander Herrera when their transfer embargo is lifted in the new year.
The Spaniard has been starved of first team football so far this campaign, making only seven appearances in all competitions for United.
Despite scoring two goals in those games, including one in the 3-1 victory over arch rivals Liverpool, he has struggled to force his way into Louis van Gaal’s plans.
Reports are suggesting that Barcelona have monitored Herrera’s progress since his days at Athletic Bilbao, with the 26-year old being fully aware of their interest.
The Catalonian’s will be allowed to sign players in the January transfer window, with the central midfielder rumoured to be on a shortlist of targets they want.
It is believed that Barca originally wanted to take Herrera on loan until the end of the season, but due to his lack of playing time they will try and push a permanent deal through.
The former Real Zaragoza trainee cost the Red Devils £29 million back in the summer of 2014.
