Cesc Fabregas has revealed that Barcelona tried to block his move to Chelsea. The 27-year old completed his £27m move to Stamford Bridge last week, becoming Jose Mourinho’s first major signing of the summer.

Now, the midfielder has revealed how the La Liga side tried to stop him from moving. The club did release a statement confirming the deal, but the Catalan giants president didn’t want to sell the Spaniard. Fabregas said to radio station Cadena Cope: “I asked Barcelona to find a way for me to leave the club. The president tried to stop the sale, but I had already made my mind up.”

The ex-Arsenal man is now happy to be back in the Premier League with Chelsea, as he added: “At the time I spoke with sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta and the president Josep Maria Bartomeu and I told them I wanted to leave. Honestly, it all went really smoothly. I’m not leaving for any specific reason, if not for a multitude of different things, my own errors and that’s it.

“If I didn’t think that I’d be happy at Chelsea, I would’ve never made this decision. Above all, I want to be happy both professionally and personally.”
