Bayern Munich legend and current Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic has confirmed that France’s World Cup star Benjamin Pavard will join the club on a five-year deal in the summer. Salihamidzic said, “I can report that we were able to sign Benjamin Pavard for us from 1 July 2019. He’s signed a five-year contract. ”

Pavard gained prominence through his performances in the World Cup where he scored a remarkable goal against Argentina. The goal was voted as the Goal of the Tournament. Since then, Bayern were keen on signing the youngster. They have managed to sign him from Vfb Stuttgart this time.

Pavard joined Stuttgart from French club Lille in 2016 and has since made 71 appearances for the club, scoring two goals and providing as many assists. This season, Pavard has made 14 appearances for Stuttgart who are currently fighting relegation. The defender has missed Stuttgart’s last three Bundesliga matches due to a torn muscle.

Pavard’s addition to Bayern Munich’s squad is a big asset for the club. However, it may be hard for him to become a regular starter for the club as Bayern have some pretty decent centre-backs in Jerome Boateng, Mats Hummels and Niklas Sule. Even though Pavard can function as a right0-back (his position during the entirety of France’s World Cup campaign), Bayern have the likes of Joshua Kimmich and Rafinha in that position. Hence, it will be interesting to see how Niko Kovac fits the Frenchman in the squad next season.
