Bayern Munich laugh off Manchester City interest for ‘keeper

Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola has laughed off reports linking Manchester City with a £40million bid for goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

City manager Manuel Pellegrini is believed to have lost faith in current number-one Joe Hart, and he doesn’t see Costal Pantilimon as a long-term first-team option, so his attentions have turned to a new shot-stopper and he is aiming for one of the world’s best.

Manuel Neuer has become one of the top goalkeepers in the world in recent seasons for both Bayern Munich and Germany, but Guardiola has insisted that he will not be leaving Munich for Manchester.

‘Absolutely no chance,’ laughed the Bayern boss, when asked about the potential transfer.

Munich take on City in the Champions League this week and Guardiola is determined to pick up the victory.

‘I love hearing about these records but there are still a lot of areas in which Bayern can improve,’ he added. ‘There is no way I will be taking this game for granted.

‘City have many players of great quality. They need to score three times to top the group and they have the players to do it.

‘I expect a very tight game. They will give us no space between the lines. I hope our players understand just how damage a Manchester City can do. They have incredible players.

‘I have told my players that second is not an option for us.

‘This is a very different Manchester City to last year when they didn’t reach the knockout stages. Anyone who gets them will find them very difficult opponents but I want first place and 18 points.’
