Bayern refuse to rule out Benatia bid

German champions Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has hinted that the German champions are interested in signing Roma defender Mehdi Benatia.
It was thought that the defender was en route to the Premier League, with Chelsea and Manchester United both showing major interest. However, recent reports have linked him with a move to Germany.
“We’re not going to say anything because, if in doubt, that could only make the player more expensive,” Rummenigge said.

“If we do do anything on the transfer market, then it will all depend on the quality and the price.”

Roma are understood to be firm on their ÂŁ32m valuation of their prized asset, who only moved to Rome from Udinese last summer.

Benatia is reportedly keen on a move after Roma failed to honour an agreement to increase his wages after a successful first year at the club, which saw them qualify for the Champions League after finishing second in Serie A.
