Mourinho set to stick with current defensive options

Jose Mourinho will NOT make a move for Benfica defender Victor Lindelof this January, as he is thought to favour his current defensive options.

The Daily Mail understand that despite strong links between the player and a move to Old Trafford, Mourinho believes he does not need another centre-back.

It is thought the Special One is impressed with the form of Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo at the back, and with first choice pairing Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly available for selection again after injury troubles, Mourinho doesn’t feel the need to splash the cash on another big money signing.

Bailly is soon to fly off home for the African Cup of Nations, but Mourinho is convinced that his other 3 defenders can do the job while he is away.

But, while some have fought their way back into Mourinho’s future plans, the 53-year-old is still expected to shed some of his squad’s dead weight next month.

Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay have been linked heavily with moves away from Old Trafford after failing to make any impression on Mourinho since his arrival in the summer.
