Benjamin Pavard Can Become One Of The Best Right-Backs - Bayern Chief

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has backed Benjamin Pavard to a massive extent.

Following some inconsistent displays, the Frenchman has come under heavy criticism from fans and the media.

He has started in 9 league games this season following a debut campaign plagued with injuries. He used to be Hansi Flick’s first choice at the right-back spot but has seen his minutes fall behind Niklas Sule and Bouna Sarr.

Rummenigge has had to leap to the defence of the former Stuttgart player and World Cup winner. Speaking to Welt, he said, “Benji is a great player who can get much better.

“He’s a fantastic defender and absolutely capable of becoming one of the best right-backs in the world. It is up to him to motivate himself so that he can do it.”

Bayern’s choices in the position are in plenty and they are unlikely to move ahead for a replacement. Pavard, Sarr, Chris Richards, and now SĂĽle are all available for selection, making a highly competitive position.

Sule’s future is at centre-back and Sarr has yet to develop further. If Pavard climbs out of this bad run of form, the position is pretty much his. Now, the 24-year-old simply needs to step up to the task as the season progresses.
