Arsenal were reportedly the front runners to sign the player
Karim Benzema has categorically denied ever wanting to leave Real Madrid this summer in an interview.
The striker was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal, with many fans and pundits clammering for Arsene Wenger to make a move for his fellow countryman.
But the Gunners nor any other clubs made an official bid for Benzema over the summer.
The 27 year old has won 7 major honours in the Spanish capital
Benzema himself labelled those who thought he would leave Madrid as ‘clowns’ last month, and again reiterated his desire to remain at the Bernabeu.
“There was nothing in the talk of a transfer away from Madrid,” Benzema told French TV channel Telefoot.
“I’m happy at my current club, it’s the best in the world. I’ll continue to work here and be happy where I am.”
Since joining Los Blancos in 2009 from Lyon, the France international has scored 88 goals in 189 appearances, in all competitions.
