Liverpool ready to sell midfielder

Besiktas have confirmed that they are in talks with Liverpool regarding a deal for midfielder Lucas Leiva.

The Brazilian has been told by Brendan Rodgers that he can leave Anfield this summer, despite keeping him at the club back in January when several Serie A teams were interested in signing him.

Lucas has fallen down the pecking order at Liverpool and is now considered fifth choice centre-midfielder, behind the likes of Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Emre Can and Joe Allen.

Besiktas Interest

Besiktas initially wanted to sign the midfielder on a permanent basis, but their £3.5million offer was way short of Liverpool’s £8m valuation.

Therefore the Super Lig outfit are now trying to bring the Brazilian in on a season-long loan, with the club’s head of transfer committee confirming that Lucas is one of their targets.

Erdal Torunogullari is quoted as saying by Lig TV: “Lucas is a player on our shortlist, talks are ongoing.”
