Better Scoring Ratio Than Benteke Still Not Enough for Mourinho

It took his old teammates at West Brom just a day to nickname Romelu Lukaku ‘The Beast.’ The reason being he spent the whole season bullying, harrying and powering his way past the best defenders in the Premier League.

A just the tender age of 20 Romelu Lukaku has huge potential to be a world class player hence why when a loan move became available, Everton nd West Brom were fighting over the striker. Lukaku eventually chose Everton to help him progress further in his career.

Lukaku provides some of the best value for money in the Premier League, he wasn’t even mentioned in the young player of the year awards, mostly under the radar thanks to Aston Villa’s striker Christian Benteke. Benteke on average scored once in every 148 minutes whereas Lukaku did the same in just 117 minutes. Lukaku even played 11 hours fewer than his colleagues but was only 2 goals behind them.

More impressively Lukaku’s goals were even spread across his game, he is both an ariel threat and neat on the floor, his goals were spread evenly between his head and his left and right foot, his obvious pace and power has linked him with comparisons with Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.

It’s not all positives, Lukaku cannot hold the ball as well as Drogba and did drift out of games last year but he was only 19 years of age and improvement will come over time enabling him to become outstanding.

Lukaku made 35 appearances scoring 17 goals, not only his goals but he created 36 chances for West Brom gaining 4 assists.

Lukaku was regarded as a good team player by his old teammates at West Brom and has a very good work ethic. Most impressively he kept himself to himself, he lived in adjacent apartments with Aston Villa’s Benteke and wasn’t one for the bright lights or front pages.

It is simple to see why Mourinho has let Lukaku out on loan, considering how much he improved last season gaining regular football, another year will provide him with time to add to his game. This game time may not have been possible at Chelsea and you don’t want the pressure of a title challenege so early on in your career, he could be magic, all in all a good coup for Martinez at Everton and a good tactic by Chelsea.

Lukaku is certainly one to watch and could have the potential to become as iconic, if more so, than Drogba.
