Mauricio Pochettino has graciously accepted the blame for Hugo Lloris’ howler against Southampton in the 2-1 Premier League win.
Tottenham Hotspur managed to put away the bottom-hugging Saints at home despite being a man short from the first half. Goals from Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Kane helped them climb up to the fourth spot of the table but Danny Ings’ goal off of Lloris’ error did make the fans nervy.
Six minutes before the opening half whistle, the Spurs goalkeeper was caught dilly-dallying in front of his own goalline. Ings lunged into a challenge and drew his side level with ease.
“To be honest I am not surprised by the character of the team,” Pochettino said in his post-match press conference. “We always have that character. We have amazing players and we were playing in the Champions League final only a couple of months ago.”
The Argentine thinks it is his fault Lloris made that error despite it forming a pattern over the recent weeks. He added, “Don’t blame Hugo, blame me because I tell him to play in that way.”
