In order to continue his development, the 19-year-old center-back Aaron Anselmino of Boca Juniors has agreed to join Chelsea on a seven-year contract worth approximately £17 million (€19,7 million, $21.5 million), including add-ons. The west London club also announced that Anselmino will return to Boca on loan for the 2024–25 season.
The versatile defender, who debuted in the summer of 2023, has only made 10 professional appearances for Boca since breaking into the starting lineup. A key component of Chelsea’s recruitment strategy under BlueCo ownership is now sourcing young South American players. Willian Estevao, a Brazilian winger from Palmeiras, was officially signed by Chelsea earlier this summer for €57 million.

In January 2024, Anselmino committed to the club by signing a contract extension that lasted until 2028. In addition to goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, defenders Tosin Adarabioyo and Caleb Wiley, winger Estevao Willian, attacker Marc Guiu, and midfielders Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Veiga, and Omari Kellyman, Chelsea has spent over £115 million on these players thus far this summer.
Despite signing a seven-year contract, Anselmino who made ten appearances for Boca in all competitions last season will go back to Argentina on loan for the 2024–25 season. Although he struggled with injuries for most of the year, the center defense scored once in a Copa Sudamericana victory over Trinidense in April.
Omari Hutchinson, Lewis Hall, and Ian Maatsen have all sold for almost £90 million, while Conor Gallagher is poised to sign a £33 million contract with Atletico Madrid. On August 18, Chelsea takes on Manchester City in the opening match of their 2024–25 Premier League season.
