A Body has been found from the wreckage of the aircraft carrying Emiliano Sala to Cardiff from Nantes, Air Accidents Investigation Branch has confirmed.
The small plane which had two members Sala and pilot David Ibbotson went missing just after taking off from Nantes. Sala completed a club record move to Cardiff City from Nantes and was supposed to join the Wales club after completing all the formalities.
A search operation had been launched immediately but despite making all the efforts the flight couldn’t be found. Sala’s family then raised funds to conduct an underwater search and with the help of a shipwreck hunter, they managed to drag out the body from the wreckage.
It is yet to be found whether the body is of the missing footballer or the pilot. AAIB issues a statement : “In challenging conditions, the AAIB and its specialist contractors successfully recovered the body previously seen amidst the wreckage.
“The operation was carried out in as dignified a way as possible and the families were kept informed of progress.”
“The weather forecast is poor for the foreseeable future and so the difficult decision was taken to bring the overall operation to a close.”
