World’s fastest man links up with BVB

Borussia Dortmund have welcomed Olympic 100m gold medalist Usain Bolt to train with them and have dismissed the surprise news as being a joke.

The 30-year-old Jamaican sprinter and nine-time Olympic champion are both sponsored by Germany-based sports brand Puma and it is understood that that was the reason for Bolt heading to Germany to continue his training.

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told Kicker magazine on Sunday: “It’s not a joke, it’s not a marketing stunt.”

Puma’s president had contacted the Bundesliga giants to request that Bolt train with the team, at the runner’s request.

Watzke revealed he welcomed the ideal, while BVB boss Thomas Tuchel was also looking forward to the opportunity.

Asked if Bolt could have a future at Dortmund, Watzke said: “We don’t even need to talk about it. We’re happy, we are honoured.”

Bolt is well known to be a Manchester United fan and previously admitted his desire to one day play for the club, despite his age and a different sporting background.
“For me, if I could get to play for Manchester United, that would be like a dream come true,” the 30-year-old said. “Yes, that would be epic.”
