Bolton Wanderers have today been relegated from the SkyBet Championship, after another disappointing defeat, this time at the hands of Derby County
The fans of Bolton Wanderers are made of strong stuff, though a disappointing 2015/16 Campaign has tested their strengths to the limits. Relegation out of the Sky Bet Championship, the sad passing of a long standing chairman, the threat of liquidation for months on end and finally the reminder that their local neighbours Wigan Athletic are close to leap frogging them back to the SkyBet Championship. That is ten seasons of turmoil rolled up into one.
The Trotters have only won 4 games all season, and haven’t won a game at home for over a year- a horrendous statistic for any football club. A low point was a 0-6 drubbing at the hands of Bristol city- a day fans will want to forget. After Neil Lennon was relieved of his duties, fans thought it may be a turning point for the club, though that day never came.
The final nail in the coffin came today, as Bolton travelled to Derby County, only to lose 4-1, Zach Clough scoring the only goal for the Whites. Russell(2), Ince, and Butterfield were on the scoresheet for Derby.
A club previously feared are now pitied. Fans will hope that a season in League 1 will prompt some fight from the players, as they try to get the club back to it’s former glory. However, that may be a long time coming at the current future on the horizon.
