Fabio Borini has joined Liverpool on their pre-season of North America, crushing Sunderland hopes after they had agreed a deal to sign the striker for £14m.
The player spent last season on-loan at the Stadium of Light, enjoying a successfull spell in helping Sunderland beat the drop.
And yesterday, it was revealed that Sunderland’s tabled bid of £14m was accepted by Liverpool as it looks likely that Loic Remy will arrive at Anfield very shortly.
However, Borini has travelled with Liverpool on their pre-season tour to America and featured yesterday against Preston, creating confusion wether the deal will go through or not.
Sunderland boss Gus Poyet yesterday confirmed that he had struck a deal to sign the Italian forward and was hoping to hold talks with the player in the coming days:
“What I can inform you is that we have agreed terms with Liverpool,” he told The Northern Echo.
“We are now waiting for correspondence, and we will go from there. We’re just waiting.”
And now it seems that Sunderland will face an anxious wait to find out wether the player will accept the move or fight for his place at Anfield.
