The defender is set to be called back due to lack of playing time and defensive concerns

Jose Mourinho is set to call Cameron Borthwick-Jackson back to Man United in January.

According to reports, the Man United boss is intending to recall the defender from his current loan spell at Wolves when the winter transfer window opens.

The 19-year old has been on loan ta the Championship side since the start of the current campaign but he has failed to feature too regularly for them. He has made just six appearances out of a possible fifteen for Wolves and Mourinho may decide to call him back due to this lack of gametime.

It could also be down to the fact that the Red Devils have some concerns about defensive cover at the moment.

Injuries to United’s defence

Eric Bailly and Antonio Valencia are two notable players out with injuries and with Borthwick-Jackson back at the club, they would have another option for someone to call up if needed.

He can certainly cut it at the top level, as shown by his performances at Old Trafford last year. He impressed when given the chance with the first-team and was ultimately only sent out on loan to get regular first-team action, which ultimately hasn’t happened.

In addition, Luke Shaw had just regained full fitness and it meant that his chances would have become a lot more limited.

Jose Mourinho does believe that the youngster has bags of talent and potential though, which is why he was tied down to a new deal at United and was told his future belongs at the club by the Special One before he was sent out on loan.

If they did decide to bring him back, Borthwick-Jackson would no doubt be more than ready to play if called upon by the first-team.
