Achraf Hakimi has broken out as a star in the Borussia Dortmund ranks, taking advantage of his two-year loan spell from Real Madrid.
There is no doubt that the Bundesliga outfit would like to keep him but Real is expected to offer heavy resistance.
Hakimi has delivered 9 goals and 13 assists in 58 appearances for BVB. His versatility on the pitch has made him an instrumental piece to this attacking Dortmund side. The Moroccan international can play at right-back, left-back and as a winger. He was clinical in helping the club reach the Champions League knockout stages.
“We will have talks with Real Madrid in the next few weeks,” Dortmund sporting director, Michael Zorc told Sport Bild. “The decision is not up to us, but Achraf’s great development has, of course, not been hidden from anyone in Spain either. He feels very comfortable with us. They [Real Madrid] know that we would like to keep him.”
Hakimi will have to fight for playing time against Dani Carvajal back in Spain. There is even more uncertainty if David Odriozola returns from his loan spell to Bayern Munich. He is promised a much bigger role in Dortmund, succeeding into Lukasz Piszczek’s spot.
