Bundesliga side relaxed over striker’s future

Borussia Dortmund have responded to the transfer speculation surrounding Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and they’ve confirmed that they have no fears about the striker leaving the club.

The Gabon striker has been heavily linked with a move away from the Bundesliga, with a trio of Premier League clubs all showing interest ahead of the January transfer window.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United have all been mentioned as potential suitors, and now with the window officially open, it’s reported that they could all launch bids to sign the in-form forward.

However, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has admitted he has no fears about Aubameyang leaving and is adamant that it’s just paper-talk.

Watzke referred to players like Mats Hummels, Marco Reus and Ilkay Gundogan as examples that the club can keep hold of their star players.

Dortmund CEO Speaks

He said: “Where are they right now? Still here.

“At this stage, Borussia are very much capable of making financially interesting offers to players.

“Add the sporting element and the BVB environment to it and we don’t need to hide from anyone.

“He’s under contract until 2020 and those situations are not new for us,” he added about Aubameyang.

“We’ve been one of the bigger clubs in Europe for the past five, six years, and are seventh in the UEFA ranking.

“It’s just normal that our players attract attention.”
