Borussia Dortmund star rejects new contract talks- chance for Chelsea and Arsenal?

Henrik Mkhitaryan has rejected a chance to talk to Borussia Dortmund over a new contract- putting Chelsea and Arsenal on high alert.

The 27-year-old has just enjoyed the season of his life under Thomas Tuchel, scoring 18 goals and assisting 20 more, finally adding consistency to his undoubted star quality. This has since put the player on the radar for many high profile clubs such as Chelsea and Arsenal.

The Armenian International’s contact is set to expire in one year, after the 2017 season. This could potentially mean that he could leave for a reduced fee either in summer or in January.

Where would Mkhitaryan fit in?

Arsenal are looking to add a more creative midfielder to their ranks following the recent addition of the more defensively minded Granit Xhaka, in order to obtain a much more balanced and exciting squad to contend for the illusive Premier League title next season.

Chelsea however are thought to view Mkhitaryan as an alternative to exciting Brazilian creative midfielder Oscar, who could see himself be surplus to requirement for  the incoming manager Antonio Conte.

Mkhitaryan would be the second casualty of Borussia Dortmund’s summer, after recently losing Mats Hummels to bitter rivals Bayern Munich over the last couple of weeks. The German club finished second last season behind Bayern Munich, as well as finishing as runners up in the German cup- Dortmund fans will certainly hope that funds from these transfers will be used to bolster their squad for next season.
