Borussia Dortmund chief reveals Abramovich intervention in Batshuayi deal.

BORUSSIA DORTMUND CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has revealed they wanted a permanent deal for Michy Batshuayi before Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich intervened.

Borussia Dortmund signed Michy Batshuayi on loan in January to plug the gap following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s move to Arsenal. The Chelsea striker has settled quickly with the German side, scoring three goals and providing one assist in his first two matches.

And Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has admitted he is delighted with the Belgium international and had hoped to sign him permanently. However, Blues owner Roman Abramovich is said to have prevented the Bundesliga team from including a purchase clause in Batshuayi’s contract.

Watzke said: “We tried our best to get a permanent option for Michy Batshuayi but it was a no go for Chelsea, It was not possible to get a purchase option because if Roman Abramovich says no, then it means no.”

“There is always a chance, although if he scores in every game, it will be difficult, Unless he says that he wants to remain with the BVB.

“We talked to him four years ago and watched him. The fact that he has taken this course [to come on loan] is a stroke of luck for us as he fits in quite well with the team.”

However, the Dortmund chief has not completely given up hope of reaching a permanent agreement for Batshuayi in the summer.

And he revealed the German side have been interested in signing the Belgian for years, talking with him prior to his move to Marseille in 2014.
