Brazil were held to a frustrating draw by Switzerland in the Group E opener.

Former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho’s stunner not enough for World cup’s hot favourites.

The Brazilians looked to be in full control of their opener and it took Brazil just 20 minutes to open their World Cup account and they did it in some style.

Then came the moment Barcelona midfielder and former Liverpool star scored nothing less than a screamer to give World Cup favourites Brazil an early lead vs Switzerland.

However the Swiss hit back hard and started dictating the play in the second half.

And eventually they levelled things up after Steven Zuber nodded home from a corner five minutes into the second half.

Switzerland saw plenty of the ball after the goal but lacked quality in the final third.

Brazil came on strong in the closing stages as Neymar, Roberto Firmino and Miranda all went close but the resolute Swiss held on.

The Workd Cup contenders have Costa Rica next up on Friday while Switzerland take on Serbia, who opened their campaign with a 1-0 win over Costa Rica and top Group E.
