Liverpool announce sixth summer signing

Liverpool Football Club have announced their sixth summer signing with Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne joining the club.

The deal was in the pipeline after reports emerged last week that the deal was edging closer, and it’s now been officially confirmed by The Reds that the right-back has agreed to join.

Fee Agreed

The fee is undisclosed, but it’s reportedly between ÂŁ12million and ÂŁ15m, and the England international has signed a long-term contract at Anfield.

Liverpool made an initial bid of ÂŁ10m for the right-back, but they saw it rejected with Southampton wanted at least ÂŁ12.5, but a new and improved bid was launched last week and Clyne‘s medical was completed on Monday.

After arriving at Liverpool, Clyne spoke to the club’s official website and revealed his delight at signing for the club.

Clyne Statement

“I’m delighted and it’s a dream move for me to come here and play for such a big club with all of its history,” said Clyne. “I can’t wait to get started.

“As soon as Liverpool showed their interest in me, I was happy and just wanted the deal to go through.

“The gaffer has shown a lot of interest in me and this is a place where I can improve as a player, I think. It’s definitely a good opportunity to come here and try to fulfil my potential.

“I’ve played at Anfield before and know what the atmosphere is all about. It’s a great atmosphere and will make me rise to the challenge.

“I’m really looking forward to it and hopefully it can push me on to putting on good performances.”

Sixth Signing

Clyne becomes Liverpool’s sixth summer signing, following James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez and Roberto Firmino.

He is also the fourth player in a year to swap The Saints for The Reds, following Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren.

Liverpool’s attentions will now turn to a new striker, with Christian Benteke expected to be signed.
