Real Madrid attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil has signed a five year contract for Arsenal in a deal worth £42.5 million. Ozil is believed to be earning £140,000 a week after he passed a medical in Germany on the transfer deadline day.

Per Mertesacker and Wenger himself convinced Ozil to sign for the North London club  and it smashes Arsenal’s transfer record with was previoulsy Santi Cazorla from Malaga for £16.5 million.

Ozil has said on Monday evening ‘I’m looking forward to my future in the Premier League and at Arsenal,’ Ozil said on Monday night. ‘I look with pride on three wonderful years at Real Madrid, in which I’ve developed athletically and as a person.’

‘We won three titles and I was a regular, but now I look forward to my future in the Premier League with Arsenal. In talking with Arsene Wenger, I immediately sensed what had been missing, the wholly-hearted trust in me. I will pay back the club and the fans in each game. Now I want to help the club to finally win a title.’

Arsene Wenger told the clubs official website ‘we are extremely pleased to have signed Mesut Ozil. He is a great player, with proven quality at both club and international level. We have watched and admired him for some time as he has all the attributes I look for in an Arsenal player.’

‘I have said throughout the summer that we have been working hard to bring in top quality players to this football club. This has involved many many people across the Club and I have always had the full support of the Club in making decisions on the football side.’

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis said: ‘This is an exciting day for all of us. We have signed a world-class player who is one of Europe’s brightest young talents. ‘Mr Kroenke, our controlling owner, has always fully supported Arsène and the Club in making significant investments to strengthen our squad and to bring in talented players who fit our style and ambitions.’

‘Like all of us, Mr Kroenke wants to see Arsenal winning titles and trophies and he has absolute faith and belief in our manager to achieve that. We will continue to work towards that goal and look forward to an exciting season.’

After Real Madrid paid a world record fee for Gareth Bale, Real Madrid boss, Carlo Ancelotti, was told he had to recoup some of the money by either selling Ozil or Di Maria.
