England and Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is set to miss at least six weeks of action after he suffered a hairline fracture in his left foot during last night’s friendly victory over Denmark.

The 21-year-old, who has had serious injury problems with his ankle in the past, took a heavy knock from Liverpool centre-back Daniel Agger in the first-half, but continued to play on until the 60th minute.

Even after the game, Wilshere confirmed that it was just a bruising on his ankle, but official scans have shown the news is even worse for The Gunners man.

Wilshere missed 17-months of his career due to an ankle problem and he is now set to miss the season run-in with Arsenal and could also miss the World Cup in Brazil.

Six weeks out of action takes Wilshere to 17th April and assuming Arsenal are out of the Champions League by then, it gives him a maximum of 5 games before World Cup squad announced is on 13th May.

Arsenal made this statement on their official website: “Following initial scans carried out by the FA on Wednesday night, further investigation by Arsenal’s medical team has discovered a crack to a small bone in Jack’s left foot – the navicular, an area of his foot which has not been previously injured.

“Jack will now require a period of approximately six weeks’ rehabilitation, before starting to regain his match fitness.”

This news will come as a big blow to both club and country.
