Raheem Sterling has credited Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers with his turnaround in form – but admitted they did “butt heads” during the early days of their relationship.

The Reds boss was captured on camera in the Being Liverpool documentary of 2012 giving the youngster a telling off at a training session in America.

Sterling was caught telling his manager to “steady” before Rodgers fired back.

“You say ‘steady’ to me again when I say something to you, you’ll be on the first plane back,” snapped Rodgers.

However, Sterling says the issues are firmly in the past and he thanked his manager for helping him en route to the England set-up.

The Liverpool Echo quotes Sterling as saying: “When he first came in, obviously there was a little bit of head clashing but it wasn’t much. I went over to him at the end of the training session and I said to him, “I wasn’t saying anything about you” and we both finished it there.

“Ever since that day it’s been a breath of fresh air really. He helps me a lot with not just my football but if I need someone to talk to about off the field then he’s there for me. He’s helped me massively, especially on the pitch as well, so I have to give credit to him and thank him a lot.”

The Anfield outfit are just a point behind the Premier League leaders Chelsea, and with seven games to play, many Reds fans are dreaming of a first league title since 1990.

The 19-year-old was coy on making any bold title predictions, but admitted that there was a “real good belief” in the team’s capabilities.

“I’m not going to be the one that says Liverpool are going to win the league but there is a real good belief around the squad,” he added.

“There is a real togetherness in the squad. We are all working for each other, we all know what the dream is and hopefully we can keep climbing away at the table.”

The Reds host Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.
