Brendan Rodgers blasts Mario Balotelli yet again

Liverpool striker, Mario Balotelli, has been blasted by Brendan Rodgers once again for his work-rate in training sessions and in matches.

The Italian has struggled to settle in Merseyside, after completing his Summer move from AC Milan, and he has taken a lot of criticism from fans, pundits and even team-mates, with Steven Gerrard labelling him disrespectful.

The latest saga involving Balotelli came against Besiktas in the Europa League when he took the penalty off Jordan Henderson and took it for himself.

Luckily for him, he scored and Liverpool won the game, but that hasn’t stopped Rodgers from blasting the controversial figure for his lack of effort.

“Well, if he works harder than when he came on, he will do,” said Rodgers. “(Am I happy with his performance?) No, not really, no.

“We need to ensure that whatever level of the game we are playing at, we have everyone working as a team and once we get the penalty he stops working.

“So he needs to improve on that facet of his game to play in his position, rather than standing on the side of the football field.

“He has contributed, he has got the penalty and scored the goal, but that is what he is paid to do.

“So he needs to keep that efficiency in his game and show that he can affect the team whether he is asked to play from the bench or from the start.”
