Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is confident that winger, Raheem Sterling, will ignore interest from Real Madrid, and sign a new lucrative deal at Anfield.

The Englishman has had a superb start to the 2014/2015 campaign, becoming one of the Reds’ star players, and his performances have caught the eye of Spanish giants, Madrid, who are keen to sign him next Summer.

The 19-year-old, who burst onto the scene during Rodgers’ first season at the club, has developed into a regular starter for Liverpool and one of their key assets, and that is why the manager and the board want to offer him a new deal, with a whopping pay-rise.

However, his stand-out displays have caught the eye of Madrid, who are now ready to make a formal move for him in the Summer, but Rodgers is convinced that the teenager will remain in England.

“There are ongoing talks between the owners and myself regarding contracts for a number of players,” Rodgers told the ECHO.

“With Raheem we are relaxed where we’re at with him.

“The club are dealing with that and I’m sure we’ll get the solution.

“He is very happy here – that’s the key thing. In time I’m sure that will be sorted.”

Sterling’s current contract runs until 2017, but it’s believed Liverpool want to extend that, and also give him a substantial pay-rise on his current ÂŁ30k-a-week salary.
