Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is chasing Southampton youngster Calum Chambers and is desperate for his signature. The 19-year-old shone last season for The Saints under the guidance of former-manager Mauricio Pochettino and was even tipped as a possible selection for England’s 23-man World Cup squad for Brazil.
With Glen Johnson hitting 30 and Jon Flanagan switching to the left-side of defence, Rodger’s is out looking for a new right-back and believes Chambers is the right man.
Former-Liverpool star Mark Lawrenson told the press that he believes singing Chambers would be a good move by Brendan Rodgers. He told the press: “If I were Liverpool I would still want to hold on to [Johnson]. At the moment there are very few players available in that position that are actually better than him.
“The best thing to do would be to get a youngster like Calum Chambers from Southampton. Give Johnson another year and allow someone like Chambers to really compete and push him for a place in the starting XI.”
