Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is hopeful that midfielder Philippe Coutinho will sign a new long-term deal at Anfield.

The Brazilian playmaker has been crucial to The Reds after arriving last January from Inter Milan in a deal worth just ÂŁ8.5million, and now that Luis Suarez has left, Coutinho will be one of Rodgers’ most influencial and important players in the 2014/2015 campaign.

Rodgers in fact labelled the 22-year-old as the ‘brain’ of his side, and he is hopeful that a new deal can be agreed and signed in next few weeks.

“I am not sure when it will be done,” Rodgers said.

“I haven’t spoken to any of the directors in the last few days so I am not sure where we are on that, but obviously he is someone we want to tie up for a period of time.

“I am sure I will hear more about it when I get back on Tuesday.”
