Brendan Rodgers: I am the right man

Under-fire Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers, is confident that he remains the right man for the job at Anfield.

Rodgers believes that his strong relationship with the Liverpool owners, Fenway sports group, will be enough for him to remain as manager, despite recent speculation over his future.

Liverpool have struggled for consistency this season, in what will be another trophy-less campaign, following Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

Reports in Germany suggest that the soon to be departing Borussia Dortmund manager, Jurgen Klopp, is being lined up for the Liverpool, but the current Reds’ manager stated that he is the right man to oversee events at the club.

Speaking at his pre-match press-conference, the Northern Irishman said: “Very much so. I don’t think there’s anyone better. That’s the reality of how I see it.

“Three months ago I was a tactical genius, performing to a good level.

“We lost some important games and now I’m not so good. That’s football, people will speculate.

“I never get too carried away when we win or overly disappointed when we lose as you have to look to the next game.

“I have a strong relationship with the owners. They understand this was going to be a process.

“This isn’t a group of ready-made players used to winning. I’ve not taken over machine that for 10 years was winning trophies.

“Of course we want to be better next season and improve on the performance level.”

Rodgers wary of Klopp link

The board of Liverpool remain supportive of Rodgers, despite the availability of Klopp in the summer.

Klopp will stand down from his role at the Bundesliga outfit after a seven-year stint, and is highly tipped for a move to the top-flight of the English football pyramid.

“When you’re at a club like Liverpool you will have many names mentioned – that’s the mark of being at such a huge club, a worldwide club,” said Rodgers.

“It’s not a problem. It’s something that happens. If you lose a couple of games, others will be linked with the job.

“That will happen whether I’m doing good, bad or indifferent because this is such a big club.

“If you take the emotion out of last weekend, this was a team who over achieved last season. We were not expected to get in the top four.
