Liverpool won’t be forced into sale, insists boss

Liverpool Football Club WON’T sell Raheem Sterling this Summer, according to manager Brendan Rodgers.

The winger has been in the headlines all week after reports broke on Monday that he doesn’t want to stay at Anfield and won’t be signing a new contract anytime soon.

Sterling took part in an interview with BBC earlier this season where he confirmed that he would wait until the end of the season to hold talks, but his agent has now told the club that he won’t be signing anything.

The England international wants to be at a club that competes for trophies on a regular basis, and after failing in the FA Cup and falling short in the race for Champions League, Sterling is ready to leave Liverpool.

However, according to Rodgers, the club won’t be forced into any sale this Summer with the winger still under contract for another two years.

The club were set to meet with Sterling and his controversial agent, Aidy Ward, today, but those talks have been cancelled after a turbulent week off the field in Merseyside.

Ward stated that Sterling wouldn’t even sign a £900k-a-week contract at Anfield, but Rodgers has insisted that the club won’t be forced into anything over the Summer.

Rodgers Speaks Out

“The ownership have shown their strength in their time here and have done an incredible job in the last few years to stabilise the club and point it in the right direction,” said the Liverpool manager.

“When they have had to show strength they have done so, and in the future they will do it again. They will show that strength and power to the club.

“The simple fact is Raheem has two years left on his contract.”

Attentions then turned to the game at the weekend, and when Rodgers was asked about Sterling’s availability for Sunday, he confirmed that the contract saga off the field won’t impact anything on it.

Sterling’s Availability

“The concentration for myself is to continue to improve Raheem as a footballer,” he said.

‘I don’t see Raheem being unhappy. His representative made it very clear he wanted to speak at the end of the season. I’m sure talks will take place over the summer.

“If he is fit, he will be available for selection. My relationship has not been affected. We have given Raheem an opportunity to play for one of the greatest clubs in the world.

“We want to resolve the situation but it does not change my approach to him. He is a good kid who has matured over the last few years.

“If he starts or doesn’t start, he will get the support from the fans.”
