Northern Irishman admits he’d never manage at Old Trafford

Brendan Rodgers has admitted he will never become the Manchester United manager simply down to the fact he used to manage arch-rivals Liverpool.

The Northern Irishman has been out of a job since his dismissal earlier this season, but with Louis van Gaal in danger of facing the axe, some reports suggested that Rodgers could be a surprise candidate.

Van Gaal is struggling to keep United in the top-four picture and after their 1-0 home defeat to Southampton at the weekend, more pressure has mounted on the Dutchman.

With several names already linked with replacing him at Old Trafford, Rodgers was asked about the job, but he admitted that due to his past, he knows he’ll never manage the Premier League giants.

Rodgers Rules Out United

“When you manage Liverpool you know the Manchester United job is gone,” he told talkSPORT.

“I see a lot of the criticism he gets but there’s no way that Louis van Gaal is sending the players out to have that few amount of shots on target.

“This is a guy who’s been around a long time and he built a team in ’95 at Ajax that everybody talked about for years, it was a real attacking blend of football.

“I think it’s a lot about the players as well. You look at United, do they have the players that can excite like what they had did before? That’s part to do with it as well.”
