Brighton & Hove Albion Squad 2021 – First Team 2020/21
Brighton & Hove Albion squad – new players in and out 2020/21. Here is the Brighton & Hove Albion FC Squad 2020/21 (First Team).
Brighton & Hove Albion have been improving their squad all summer ahead of the 2020/21 season. It was a very busy summer for the Seagulls last season. Their previous manager Chris Hughton left the club after spending over £36 million on new players last to last summer as the Seagulls only managed to stay afloat by coming 17th in the league, just two points above the relegation zone. However, they made only three signings in the January transfer window to add more strength to their squad for the rest of the season and the squad were already struggling before that.
Last season, they turned on a new style of football under Graham Potter. They finished 15th which was slightly better and will look to improve more.
Albion finished second in the Championship in 2016/17, losing out on the title on the last day as an injury-time goal from Jack Grealish saw them drop points to Aston Villa and hand first place to Newcastle United. Since then they qualified and had a decent 2017-18 season in the league finishing 15th on 40 points, 7 ahead of relegation level.
However, they enjoyed an excellent couple of years still and are deservedly now at the top level. In Potter, they had one of England’s most positive managers and attractive brand of football that won many admirers this season. They have plenty of quality too with players such as Anthony Knockaert, Lewis Dunk and World Cup star Jose Izquierdo. New boss Graham Potter who has taken over has done well with the squad though. They have a new season to look forward to now.
Brighton play at the Amex Stadium, moving in 2011 from their former home the Withdean. The place will be packed out week in week out this season as they host Premier League football for the 3rd time as fans are now slowly being allowed back. The question now is can they maintain their top flight status and establish themselves among the country’s elite for years to come?
Brighton & Hove Albion Squad 2020/21
We take a look at the Seagulls’ squad below. The Brighton & Hove Albion squad line up 2020/21 season will consist of these players.
Brighton & Hove Albion FC Goalkeepers 2021
- Mathew Ryan
- Jason Steele
- David Button
- Christian Walton
- Robert Sanchez
Brighton and Hove Albion brought in two experienced stoppers over last summer, with two English goalkeepers coming in- Jason Steele and David Button. It looks as if Matthew Ryan will be the first choice goalkeeper this season after a couple of fine seasons in the Premier League last season and the one before that.
Brighton & Hove Albion squad Defenders 2020/21
- Tariq Lamptey
- Ben White
- Ezequiel Schelotto
- Adam Webster
- Tudor Baluta
- Joel Veltman
- Lewis Dunk
- Dan Burn
It was Brighton’s defence that played a real key part in their promotion in their successful Championship season. Captain Bruno Saltor was a cult hero amongst fans and had top-level experience in Spain with Valenciabut has now parted ways with the club. The likes of Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy excelled in the Championship for a number of years and have adapted really well to the Premier League as well. Duffy has left now. Brighton are known for digging in deep and maintaining a mean defence. In summer 2018, Brighton signed Brazilian full-back Bernardo and Nigerian Super Eagles centre-back Leon Balogun. They also brought in a quality right back in Martin Montoya who has been giving the veteran Bruno healthy competition last season but things have changed now. Dynamic defender Schelotto was a smart player all along and has done well in random bursts but despite having so much talent he has failed to be consistent to guarantee a starting sport. Their biggest coup has to be Veltman from Ajax however.
Brighton & Hove Albion FC Midfielders
- Dale Stephens
- Pascal Gross
- Solomon March
- Davy Propper
- Jayson Molumby
- Max Sanders
- Steven Alzate
- Yves Bissouma
- Alex Allister
- Adam Lallana
In midfield, Brighton are not short of good players. French playmaker Anthony Knockaert was instrumental in their promotion campaign with 15 goals and was the star man for Chris Hughton’s side. However, ever since the promotion Knockaert has had a lot of chances to prove his worth in the big league but failed to keep up or show signs of his prior good form. He has now been sent out on loan to Fulham. Dutch international Davy Propper had an excellent first season in the Premier League for Brighton and followed it up with a decent last season as well. Meanwhile, Brighton signed Yves Bissouma from LOSC Lille for a club record fee of £17 million and the midfielder is yet to live up to his money’s worth. They have also brought in Max Sanders from their Reserve side to add depth to their squad.
Brighton & Hove Albion FC Forwards
- Glenn Murray
- Jose Izquierdo
- Neal Maupay
- Aaron Conolly
- Alireza Jahanbakhsh
- Leandro Trossard
- Florin Andone
- Jan Mlakar
- Viktor Gyokeres
The form of strike pairing Tomer Hemed and Glenn Murray played a big part in Brighton’s promotion in 2016-17. However, with Hemed now plying his trade for Queens Park Rangers in the Championship on loan, Murray is having to shoulder the responsibility of scoring the goals for the Seagulls and he is doing a good job. In Jose Izquierdo, they have another exciting option, the Colombian joining for a club record fee during the summer transfer window 2017 from Belgian side Brugge. In summer 2018, Brighton signed Florin Andone for £5.25 million. The Seagulls have also brought in young Viktor Gyokeres from the U23 side to increase squad depth in the attacking department. However, another club record signing in Locadia also failed for them making their front line a reason of real worry. Locadia did score an important goal last season that got them to Wembley but is now out on loan at Bundesliga side 1899 Hoffenheim.
