Cabaye set for Arsenal

Last week, the news broke of Arsenal’s bid for Yohan Cabaye on the eve of the Newcastle-Man City game. Cabaye was left out completely of that game and has since then been on “strike”. According to Newcastle United, Cabaye has refused to play again for Newcastle as he looks to force a move to Arsenal.

Joe Kinnear has reportively stated that “the ball is in Arsenal’s court” and that “they know how much we want for Cabaye” this figure is believed to be around the mark of 17 million. Arsene Wenger as we know is a shrewd spender and won’t spend more than what he believes they are valued at. This means that because of the valuation this Cabaye move might be dead before it even became alive. But is he actually what Arsenal need?

If you looked at the game against Aston Villa 99% of fans would say we do need Cabaye. On that day the midfield looked lackluster, and not at all interested in what was going on. However since then 3 wins in 3 including a decent win away in Turkey and now the midfield is looking fired up. Ramsey is looking sharper than ever and looks like he is becoming the player he was tipped to become before his horrific leg injury, Arteta is injured and is back in a matter of weeks, him and Cabaye are rather similar however the age gap should be taken into account. Then you have the attacking midfielders in Cazorla, Wilshere, Walcott, Podolski and Chamberlain. Cazorla and Wilshere won’t be replaced in the first team so long as they’re fit and the other three also play a huge part. So would Cabaye actually be a worthwhile signing? Why spend money on a midfielder when you could sign a striker or a top notch defender/goalkeeper for around the same valuation. Only time will tell but with 5 days left until the window closes Wenger has to make a mark in the Transfer window soon or face the wrath of the Arsenal fans.
