According to Montpellier manager Rolland Courbis, Newcastle are on the verge of signing midfielder Remy Cabella.

The Toons have seen all previous deals for the Frenchman fall through but they finally made a breakthrough when the Ligue 1 side accepted their ÂŁ9.5m bid earlier this month.

Montpellier chief executive Laurent Nicollin has confirmed there has been an agreement between the two clubs and Courbis says the deal is “90 per cent” complete.

The Montpellier boss told RMC Sport “This is not done yet. Talks continue about the traditional bonuses. I’m not really worried about the outcome.

“Laurent and Louis [Nicollin, owner of Montpellier] were right to say no to a first offer which was upsetting. We’re getting close. It’s done at 90% but not at 100% yet”.

Cabella was part of the French squad which just fell short of the semi-finals in the World Cup and despite failing to impress at the biggest stage, he was still picked ahead of Manchester City’s Samir Nasri showing he has promise and is highly rated in French football.
