Premier League giants dealt transfer blow

Former Real Madrid president Roman Calderon believes Gareth Bale will not leave the club in the summer, citing that they would not allow him to go to save face.

Welsh wing wizard Bale, 25, has been the speculation of mounting interest from Premier League duo Chelsea and Manchester United.

Bale Under Pressure

He has also come under fire for some of his performances this season, both from the Spanish media and the Bernabeu club’s fans.

But Calderon is adamant that Bale is the golden boy of current president Florentino Perez, and it would reflect badly on Perez if Bale left.

Bale Going Nowhere

Calderon told IBTimes UK: “It will depend on the whims of the president but you have to have in mind that he protects much the players that he signed.

“He has always defended those he has brought to the club. He doesn’t like to admit that he has made a mistake [and selling Bale would look like that].

“He does the same with the players he inherited from us. He didn’t like Van Nistelrooy, Robben, Sneijder because we bought them.

“He wants to show that what he can do nobody can. Indeed, he signed Kaka even though he was injured just to prove he was capable of doing what I couldn’t.”

Bale joined Real from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013 for a world record £85m, and has scored 28 goals in 55 La Liga games.
