Campbell: Arsenal need more world class players

Former Arsenal defender says that to allow Arsenal to challenge for next years title, world class signing would need to be made.

Campbell says that world class signing would ‘frighten’ Arsenal’s opposition and would allow the team to mount a challenge for the title. Manager Arsene Wenger has seen his side sit at the top of the table for the most amount of time this season, but has seen this challenge slip away after injuries to a number of players.

The signing of midfielder Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid seemed to have given Arsenal a help in hand during the opening stages of the season, but the midfielder had failed to carry his early form on throughout the year. Not only this, but injuries to key players such as Theo Walcott, Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere all dealt Arsenal with a blow.

With the likes of Diego Costa, Julian Draxler and Alvaro Morata being linked with the club, Campbell believes that there is no reason why Arsenal cannot expect to be challenging for next years title, only if they succeed in the summer window.

“Arsenal need some more players who are ready-made and world-class [to challenge for the title]. With everyone fit, I think they need another three players,” said the former England defender

“You have got to get to the stage where teams are frightened of you. You need options and they could do with a few more players who could frighten other teams with their playing ability. “It will turn, but you need that cutting edge in your side. The board might have to put their head on the block and go for it and do not be scared.

“If you spend money on a player and it does not work, you have to go again. “Yes you can get players through scouting around the world, but ultimately these players are ready made and you have got to play top dollar to get them in.

“Injuries have not helped Arsenal this season. Who knows, if Aaron Ramsey was fit, Theo Walcott did not get injured and Jack Wilshere played more regularly, you never know. “They could be in a situation like Liverpool, who have not had many injuries.”
