Arsenal forward Joel Campbell is set to sign a new contract at the Emirates before completing his loan switch to Villarreal, as part of a deal which sees Gabriel Paulista head in the opposite direction.
The 22 year-old has found first-team opportunities with the Gunners limited, making just 11 appearances, and so is set to head out for his fourth loan spell during his time at the club. Having previously made big impressions whilst on loan at FC Lorient, Real Betis and more recently Olympiakos, many thought that this season would mark his break-through year in North London, however he has featured just four times in the Premier League this season so far.
Arsene Wenger’s side have been in desperate need of a new defender this season after recent injuries have left them with just Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker able to deputise in the position. The boss has therefore gone out and purchased Brazilian Paulista for an estimated £14 million.
But, to sweeten the deal the Frenchman has offered Costa Rican Campbell to the La Liga side for the remainder of the season.
