Cantona has faith in United

Manchester United legend Eric Cantona believes Moyes’ team will be back competing for major honours in the near future.

United are currently 12 points off the top four after their 3-0 reverse to Manchester City on Tuesday, and the team’s only possible chance of silverware this season is the Champions League. Although they face possibly the best team in the world in Bayern Munich at the quarter final stage.

The World club champions and European champions are confident about dismantling United as Liverpool and Manchester City have both done in recent weeks.

United fans are obviously worried about the likelihood of missing out on European football altogether next season.

Cantona said “Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world. They have been at the highest level for 20 years, and I think they will come back very, very soon.”

“At every big club it is sometimes like this, but they have proved in the past they have the level to come back and I’m sure Manchester United will come back very soon.”

And Cantona believes David Moyes will be given the time he needs to stamp his authority on the squad and rebuild the United team his way. Especially after the difficult first campaign in the job after replacing Sir Alex Ferguson last summer.

“I think he has a long-term project. At the moment it is not very good, but maybe next year it will be great and everybody will see. But I think he is strong enough to handle the pressure,” Cantona added.

Wether Moyes will be given the time he needs is an argument pundits and supporters across the country have had all season long. One thing is for sure United need to improve quickly or face the real possibility of missing out on key transfer targets, something Liverpool faced publicly last summer. Which subsequently makes getting back into the top four even more of a challenge.

Can Moyes do it? Only time will tell.
